NANS JCC Ekiti Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to FUOYE, Demands Reinstatement of Suspended Students and SUG President
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Ekiti Axis, has called on the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) to immediately review the suspension of several students, including the institution's Students' Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Adio James.
In a statement made available to the public, the student body expressed concern over what it described as disciplinary actions that have generated widespread reactions among students. According to the association, the situation has raised important discussions surrounding student welfare, campus security, justice and institutional transparency.
NANS JCC Ekiti claimed that some of the suspended students were reportedly involved in resisting suspected criminals during an attack on a student hostel. The association maintained that the affected students acted in self-defence while attempting to protect fellow students before security personnel eventually intervened.
The student body also voiced concern over the suspension of the Students' Union President, Comrade Adio James, stressing that elected student representatives should be afforded due process whenever allegations are made against them.
Beyond the disciplinary actions, NANS JCC Ekiti highlighted the recurring security challenges facing students residing off-campus, noting that incidents of robbery and other criminal activities continue to threaten students' safety around the university environment.

The association further disclosed that it has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the university management to address the concerns raised. It warned that failure to respond within the stipulated period could result in peaceful and democratic actions by students, adding that the planned examination schedule may be affected if the issues remain unresolved.
NANS JCC Ekiti also appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education and relevant security agencies to closely monitor the situation and encourage constructive dialogue between all parties involved.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti had not released any new official statement responding to the latest demands made by the student association.
