ASUU Raises Concern Over TETFund Spending, Calls for Accountability in Public Universities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed concern over the management of funds released to public universities through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), stressing the need for transparency and proper accountability.
According to recent reports, the union said it plans to review how intervention funds allocated to universities are being utilized, following complaints that some projects funded through TETFund have not produced the expected results.
ASUU explained that the move is not meant to create conflict but to ensure that funds meant for improving infrastructure, research, and academic development in Nigerian universities are properly used.
The union noted that TETFund remains one of the major sources of support for public tertiary institutions, and any form of mismanagement could affect the growth of the education sector.
FG Supports Call for Accountability
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, also emphasized the need for strict monitoring of funds allocated to institutions. He stated that the Federal Government expects universities to give proper accounts of how intervention funds are spent.
The minister warned that institutions must ensure that projects funded by TETFund are completed on time and used for the purpose they were approved for.
He further stressed that accountability and transparency are necessary to improve the quality of education in Nigeria.

Education stakeholders believe that proper use of TETFund allocations will help improve facilities in universities, including lecture halls, laboratories, hostels, and research centers.
