Insecurity: Police Ban Sale and Use of Fireworks for Yuletide in Ekiti 🎆❌

The Ekiti State Police Command has announced a total ban on the sale and use of fireworks, firecrackers, knockouts, and similar explosive items across the state for the 2025 yuletide celebrations.
According to the Command, the ban is part of proactive security measures aimed at protecting lives and property during the festive season, especially in light of Nigeria’s increasing security challenges.
In a statement reported by Nigerian Tribune and other reputable media outlets, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abutu Sunday, said criminal elements often use fireworks as a cover to perpetrate crimes or cause distractions.
“As the yuletide season draws near, members of the public are hereby reminded that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks and firecrackers in the state is still in force.
This directive is to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of these explosive instruments to commit crimes during the festive season.”
The Police also warned that fireworks can create unnecessary panic, as the sound of bangers can be mistaken for gunshots, causing fear and confusion in communities.
SP Abutu further noted that these items have potential negative health effects and should be avoided completely.
Public Caution and Enforcement 🚨
Parents, guardians, community leaders, and shop owners are strongly advised to warn their children and wards against buying or selling fireworks. Anyone caught violating the directive will face the full wrath of the law.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, expressed appreciation to residents of Ekiti State for their cooperation throughout the year, noting that their support has helped improve peace and security across the state.
