The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and it comes with a mix of excitement and concern for Nigerian students and parents alike.
Key Highlights:
Total Candidates Registered: Approximately 2 million
Candidates Who Sat for the Exam: Over 1.94 million
Candidates Scoring Below 200: More than 75%
Candidates Scoring 300 and Above: Only 12,421 candidates (0.63%)
Candidates Scoring 320 and Above: Just 4,756 candidates (0.24%)
This marks a noticeable drop in high-performance rates compared to previous years.
Withheld Results and Exam Malpractice
JAMB has withheld the results of 39,834 candidates for various infractions, which include:
Examination Malpractice: 96 candidates caught
Fingerprint and Identity Issues: 3,656 candidates
Engaging Rogue Platforms: 244 candidates found using groups promising leaked questions and answers
Furthermore, 2,157 candidates experienced fingerprint capture rejections during registration, and about 71,705 students were absent for the exams
Underage Candidates & Exceptional Performers
Despite the rule that only candidates 16 years and older should register for UTME, JAMB noted that 41,027 underage students sat for the exam under an "exceptionally gifted" clause.
Interestingly, only 467 out of them scored above 300, while one was involved in malpractice and disqualified.
Support for Candidates with Disabilities
As part of its inclusivity efforts, 501 candidates with disabilities sat for the exam at designated centers under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) initiative. Only one candidate was caught attempting impersonation.
