The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has set the record straight regarding the current status of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina. Contrary to swirling rumors, the university insists that the VC is on official leave, not suspended.
In a statement issued by FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede, it was clearly stated that the Vice-Chancellor took his annual leave voluntarily and was not forced out of office.
This clarification follows the backlash from recent controversies — including an allegation of sexual harassment brought forward by a senior staff member. But according to the Governing Council, the matter was thoroughly investigated, and Prof. Fasina was cleared of all allegations. The complainant has now been asked to issue a written apology for bringing disrepute to the university.
Meanwhile, the university is facing pushback from the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which has rejected the Council’s decision and is threatening a strike if their concerns are ignored.
FUOYE urges the public to stay calm and avoid speculation, stressing that official updates should be trusted above unofficial reports.
